A forced marriage.
A dark and bloody curse.
A forbidden love.
An escape by night.
The small boat slides silently through the dark water, propelled by muffled oars. The smell of water weed and marsh marigold on the night breeze. Soon they will move from the shelter of the reeds, exposed beneath a treacherous moon.
Every creak and rustle makes her heart jump in her chest. She glances back to the castle on the rock, watching. Torches burn in their sconces, the shadows of patrolling guards thrown large across the walls, leaping like demons in the dancing flames. Just one look and their flight will be discovered...
His dark eyes meet hers warm and steady, and her fears die.
