Christa believes in magic. Her friends laugh at her, her older brother teases her and her parents say she has a great imagination. But she knows magic is real. She has proof.
The door is ordinary, chipped blue paint in old brickwork it looks as though it has been there forever, but it wasn’t there yesterday. She walks home this way from school every day and it wasn’t there before. Also, no one else can see it. Annie who walks as far as the butcher shop with her can’t. She just looked at her oddly. Mr. Grimm out walking his terrier couldn’t but he did give her 50c for sweets. Her Mum got cross and told her not to make things up. So only she can see it.
Today Annie is home with toothache and Christa is walking by herself. She made an extra jam sandwich this morning and packed a compass and a ball of string. Today she is going through the door.
Stepping under the bridge she sees it, just where it has been for the last week. Close up it seems to glitter,.Definitely magic. Christa ties one end of her ball of string to the door handle. Shouldering her rucksack she takes a deep breath and opens the door, steps into the light and gasps.
